Hi Leah!

You inspire me as an independent business woman. I'm actually re-reading this blog post for some inspiration. I discovered your blog a while back.

I'm at the point in my freelancing career where I'm trying to establish those "quality client relationships." I have several, but I don't feel like I'm at the point where I can take the full-time plunge. I just don't know how to market myself. How did you get started? How did you find *those* clients? I know referrals are the #1 way to get work, but no matter how much my current clients praise my work, the referrals just aren't pouring in. I just don't know where to start, really and I don't like relying on other people. Cold calls, emails, show up at a business? I'm at a loss.

Thanks :)

Leah, I clicked on your site button on Kelly Rae Roberts' blog and I adore your style! You are very talented and I hope that it takes you far.

I know you don't know me, but I'm hoping that you have a blessed 2012. Seems like 2011 has been a year of pruning for a lot of us. That's okay, because after pruning comes new growth and gorgeous blooms! ;-)

Take care,
Anna K.

What a wonderful, frank and honest article! Here I am searching for someone to help with my website, and I stumble on this!

Your story is almost like my daughter's, so I was all the more intrigued -- she is in 2nd grade, a quiet good girl who wants to learn, who struggled with school until this year when two boys with serious 'discipline issues' were placed on either side of the room, with her in the middle. They began to bully her (this is all I can surmise from input by others, as the school tried to downplay events). She fell apart. We had also discovered that she has a learning challenge, and the stress at school was causing her to hate learning (!) and so... we pulled her.

I have suddenly been thrown into the world of home/unschooling... I would love more information! I realize it is very different than people attempt to portray -- I have found it requires a huge level of ENGAGEMENT with your child, all day. Every moment is a chance to learn. Right now I'm focused on helping her find joy in learning once more.

Again, thank you for this inspiring article!

Regards,
